Two plays

I saw recently. I am loving making time to go to the theatre regularly. My pocket isn't quite keeping up with my wishes, but there are too many good shows around London at the moment to watch the piggy bank grow thin.

I am not apt at reviewing performances, but I stumbled upon this sweet blog.

Juno and the Paycock at the National Theatre was rather long and predictable...although I suppose a solid show with good performances. For theatre, it's got to enlighten me. And this one just didn't.

At the Gate in Notting Hill, I saw Yerma directed by Natalie Abrahami who is putting on more powerful work as joint artistic director. The design by Ruth Suttcliffe worked well too. I worked with Ruth briefly at college and was reminded of her detail and finish when I saw this play. Recommended. What's more, Hasan Dixon who plays Juan graduated from my school in 2008 (Central School of Speech and Drama) and great to see him perform professionally.

I saw Skane last night downstairs at the Hampstead theatre - I am loving that space and the work it attracts, new writing, great directors and designers. Maybe could be even more of a platform for the emerging kind. Good blog review here.

It don't last a second

Summer doesn't last a second in London. These photos were taken on Monday. Today I wore a wooly jumper and nearly got blown into the canal on my bike.
A moment of elation and utter freedom after handing my portfolio in for the Linbury Prize. The Southbank never fails to amuse me in summer as Britain desperately clings on to the possibility of a city beach holiday.

Enjoying a generous breakfast with one of my favouritest person in the world.

Smile.

PS > dear beautiful cafes. I love spending my time and money on you. You notice it is now light until close to 10pm. Please stay open past 6!

Morning

Yesterday. Did not want to get out of bed. This is the case for many mornings in London.

Today. Woke up in darkness but soon the kitchen was flooded with morning sunlight. Bliss with creamy porridge.

Oh the weather outside is frightful

and we don't have a delightful fire. But flu has made me appreciate the innings of the lovely East End flat. Sometimes I look out the window and the Victorian architecture staring back at me says it's still 1886. I like that.

Staying in and card-making. Candles and home made soups. Now I'm happy.
I always insist Christmas has no meaning to me. Consumerist, wasteful, stressful, full of false expectation (all that dreadful advertising). But being seasonal is something I'm truly embracing. The wind-down, domesticity, being cosy, festivities, any excuse for mulled wine (Yes I honestly like it. Lots).
PS. Listening to Nat King Cole. Now you can write me off.
